From Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain is happy to announce a new partnership with Food Lion stores in eastern North Carolina. As part of the partnership, Food Lion will donate a cake and supplies on the last Friday of each month, ensuring that all members in 17 clubs throughout the region will be able to celebrate their birthdays in a special way.

Chief Development Officer of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain Theresa Gilmore said, “When I was a unit director, my club served all of the children who lived in the homeless shelter due to proximity. It was heartbreaking to learn that most of the kids never had a birthday party. Now, thanks to Food Lion, we know that all of our club kids will be celebrated, regardless of if they have a party at home or not.”

Food Lion, headquartered in Salisbury, North Carolina, operates more than 1,000 stores in 10 southeast and mid-Atlantic states.

“Celebrating a birthday is such a simple joy, but Food Lion understands that many children are not able to do that,” said David Garris, director of operations in Greenville. Garris helped spearhead the initiative. “I am fortunate to lead a great group of team members serving the towns and cities across the region, and we thought this would be a great way to make these students’ birthdays a little extra special. Our customers know they can count on Food Lion every day, and we’re excited to join with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain on these fun birthday parties.”
