Lillian Claire Barnes Alphin, age 92, a resident of Washington, died Friday, May 4, 2018, at her home. Private services will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Alphin was born on Sept. 8, 1925, in New Hanover County to the late Major Russell Barnes and Annie Bell Williams Barnes. On Jan. 4, 1946, she married Leslie Sherman Alphin. She was a payroll clerk for the former Beaufort County Hospital for over 20 years. Mrs. Alphin was a loving mother, a great friend and above all else she loved her family.

Survivors include her three children, Anne Roberson and husband Robby, Bill Alphin, Gina Cantrell and husband Rod, all of Washington; six grandchildren, William Schmidt and wife Katherine, Shane Schmidt and wife April, Troy Schmidt, Seth Smithwick, Jordan Cantrell, Rachel Cantrell; three great-grandchildren, Ciara Schmidt, Austin Schmidt and Harrison Schmidt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie S. Alphin, and a brother, Dr. Russell Barnes.
