Jeanette Collins and Cherry Liverman earned perfect scores in the Tyrrell-Washington Bus Roadeo on May 4.

They competed against, and enjoyed the fellowship of, other Tyrrell school bus drivers as well as their peers from neighboring Washington County in the annual skills event.

The bus drivers participated in the Bus Roadeo sponsored by the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles.

The drivers were required to proficiently maneuver a school bus under various conditions and in tight quarters.

The competition tested the drivers’ ability to perform basic driving skill maneuvers with a school bus in a course which included: Offset Alley, Diminishing Clearance, Back up, Straight Line, Right Turn and Stop Line.

Collins and Liverman had perfect runs by having zero points deducted for errors. Gary Rodgers of Tyrrell County Schools was a close second with only 20 points deduction on the entire course.

“Congratulations to all of our drivers who participated in the 2018 competition, and thanks to everyone who transports our students safely each day,” said Tyrrell Superintendent Dr. Will Hoffman.
