From the Belhaven General Alumni Association

The Belhaven General Alumni Association will host its 56th homecoming celebration this weekend. This year’s theme is “Embracing the Past, Enhancing the Present and Envisioning the Future.”

Festivities will officially begin with the arrival of alumni on Friday morning and the highlight of the day will be the alumni banquet at 7 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club located on Pantego Street. Attire is semi-formal and donations of $35 are requested. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any member of the Belhaven Alumni Club.
The keynote address will be delivered by James C. Terrell III, the son of the late James C. Terrell II and Robin Holloway Terrell, Octavious D. Brewington and the late William Brewington. A member of the Northside High School Class of 2009, he served as class president during his junior and senior years. He was also an active member of the White Plains Church Ministries in Belhaven.
After graduating from Northside, he matriculated at Applachian State University and was one of 17 students selected from an applicant pool of more than 250 to serve as a student ambassador. In 2012, he was selected as president, overseeing 300 clubs and organizations on the campus, and was one of three recipients of the 2013 Plemmons Leadership Medallion, as well as the recipient of numerous other academic awards.

He has recently accepted a position with the Selective Insurance of America in Charlotte where he is a member of Elevation Church and a mentor/big brother with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Carolinas. He aspires to return to school to pursue a law degree.
The evening will culminate with the presentation of Alumni Awards to selected members of the Northside High School current graduating class.
The classes of 1948, 1958, 1978 and 1988 will be recognized with special recognition given to the Belhaven High School Class of 1968 which is celebrating its golden reunion anniversary and was the last class to graduate from the school. The presentation will be followed by a Memorial Service.
Saturday’s activities will begin at 9 a.m. on Railroad Street with the mile-long parade featuring a number of local marching groups and community organizations. The Alumni Festival will be held throughout the day on the lawn of the former school.

Alumni Worship Services will be held at the St. Reddick Missionary Baptist Church, Pamlico Street, at 10 a.m. on Sunday. The guest speaker will be Charlotte Ward Forjoe, the daughter of the late Preston and Julia Ward and a member of the Belhaven High School Class of 1968. She received a BS degree from St. Augustine’s University after earning her last three credit hours as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana, West Africa. She currently serves as part of the Servants of the House Leadership Team at the Harvest Church in Washington. Under the authority of the church, she also teaches a Life Group in Greenville where she resides. She is currently pursuing studies in Youth and Family Ministry.
