Dominion Energy on May 10 announced the award of $1 million in grants, through the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation, to nearly 130 organizations in 12 states working to improve natural spaces or encourage environmental stewardship.

“Each year I am impressed by the diverse and meaningful efforts being made in our communities to improve and sustain the environment,” said Hunter A. Applewhite, Foundation president. “These grants support programs and people dedicated to making our world a better, more livable place — one that can be treasured today and passed down to future generations.”

Recipients in North Carolina are:

• Partnership for the Sounds Inc., Enhancing Efficiency at Columbia Theater Cultural Resources Center, Columbia, $8,000.
• Mano Al Hermano, Summer Family Earth Science Program, Kitty Hawk, $5,000.
• North Carolina Business Council, Greening Minority Owned Businesses, Pitt County, $5,000.
• Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park, Sensory Stations/Picnic Area Revitalization, Scotland Neck, $2,000.
• UNC Coastal Studies Institute, Energy Literacy for Middle and High Schoolers, Wanchese, $5,000.

Since 2003, Dominion Energy has donated nearly $32 million to a wide variety of environmental projects across its service area, from rescuing sea-turtles to recycling school paper to exploring the great outdoors.
