Lorraine Smith Pelletier, 88, of Jacksonville, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at home. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 8, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Rev. Steve Smith and Rev. Dennis Goodwin officiating. A celebration of life will follow in the church fellowship hall.

After graduating in 1951 from the Charlotte Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Lorraine worked as a registered nurse in Charlotte before working in the hospital on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Browning, Montana. After coming back to North Carolina, she was the operating room nurse in the newly opened hospital in Sea Level and later moved into a position as an industrial nurse with DuPont in Kinston. She also used her nursing skills as a volunteer school nurse at White Oak High School and with the Red Cross.

Lorraine was a dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she was involved in many different facets of the church community.

She was passionate about her genealogy work and active in the Historical Society as well as the Arts Council. She was instrumental in reviving the Onslow County Chapter of the NC Symphony and worked diligently to support the Symphony visits and concerts in Jacksonville. She further expressed her love of music and the arts as a cornet player in the Onslow County Community Band. As an avid bird watcher and photographer, many of her RV travel destinations were planned around her love of nature and the outdoors.

Survivors include Jere Rufus Pelletier, her husband of 55 years; three children, Gail L. Pelletier and husband Tim Thompson, of Raleigh, Marie Pelletier-Hartwig and husband Jeffrey, of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Jere S. Pelletier and wife Christy, of Wilmington; five grandchildren, Andrew, Natalie, Alex, Justin and Sophia; and sister, Jean Smith Cuthrell.
