Abigail Martinez, a rising junior at Columbia High School, will join five students from John A. Holmes High School in Edenton for a Health Careers Boot Camp at Vidant Chowan Hospital June 11-14.
Eleventh and 12th graders from both schools who have a potential interest in a future career in healthcare were invited to participate in a “boot camp” designed to heighten awareness of and provide students with a variety of experiences in healthcare, explained Dr. Will Hoffman, Tyrrell Schools superintendent.
This opportunity will also allow the students to determine the classes they need to take in preparation for their college education and other enrichment programming.
Campers will participate in shadowing rotations throughout the campus of Vidant Chowan Hospital in Edenton. Campers will also have opportunities to talk with health professionals about their careers and how they reached their career goals, said Kelly Herr of the Vidant Chowan Hospital staff.
Camp will take place 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 11-14.
