Twiford is interim school superintendent in Tyrrell

The Tyrrell County Board of Education has selected Dr. Travis Twiford as the interim superintendent for the school district.

Dr. Twiford is set to fill the role of interim until a permanent superintendent is selected, Dr. Will Hoffman, superintendent, announced.

“The Board of Education, working together with the North Carolina School Boards Association, is taking great care in a national search process to select the best possible candidate to lead Tyrrell County Schools,” Dr. Hoffman stated. “The board hopes to announce a new superintendent by early September.”

Dr. Hoffman resigned effective June 30 to return to his home as superintendent of Madison County Schools.

Dr. Twiford began his superintendent career in the Camden County Schools and has also worked as superintendent in Rocky Mount City Schools, Nash-Rocky Mount and Elizabeth City-Pasquotank school districts.

After retiring from North Carolina Public Schools, Dr. Twiford

served as an associate professor in the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Department at Virginia Tech’s Hampton Roads Center.

He has also served as an interim superintendent in the Nash-Rocky Mount Schools and the Camden County Schools.

Dr. Twiford is a three-time North Carolina Superintendent of the Year.

“The Tyrrell County Board of Education hopes you will join us in welcoming Dr. Twiford as our interim Superintendent,” said board chairman Lee Scripture. “We look forward to his seasoned leadership through our transition period.”

Dr. Twiford was to begin transition meetings with the superintendent, district administrators and staff May 29.
