Dragonflies are back in the area!  Halloween Pennants are strong flying dragonflies found around open lakes and marshes. They are common along the coast and in slightly brackish marshes. Often seen at Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, Halloween Pennants not only are named for the shape & coloring of their wings, but also because they like to perch on the tops of grasses, twigs & reeds, looking like a pennant.
