TARBORO — Beaufort County’s junior Babe Ruth baseball team continued its good run of form Wednesday night, defeating Tarboro 14-4 in five innings to push the Pirates’ winning streak to eight games.

The team comprised of mostly freshly graduated players from Washington, Northside and Southside, along with several rising seniors and juniors, wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard Wednesday night. The Pirates, now 8-2, notched five runs in the opening frame to establish a 6-0 lead. Chris Sulc drove home the game’s first run, hitting a single to drive home Frederick Holscher.

Two batters later Will Warren hit a two-RBI single but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. That didn’t slow down the Pirates, as Tyler Harrell and Zach Woolard added RBI’s of their own to stretch Beaufort County’s lead. Despite scoring six runs in the first inning, the lead could’ve been greater, but the Pirates ended up stranding two runners on base.

Beaufort County continued to build its lead in the second, but not before picking up two quick outs. Brantley Cutler finally got things going for the Pirates in the second, belting a double. Sulc followed up with another double, scoring Cutler and picking up his second RBI of the game. Following a Parker Boyd walk, Warren collected two more RBI after reaching first on a Tarboro fielding error. When the top of the second finally came to an end, the Pirates led Tarboro 9-0.

Tarboro managed to score a run in the bottom of the second, thanks to an RBI-double of its own, but that was its only run until the fourth inning. With the help of a pair of singles, a walk and a hit batter, Tarboro added three more runs. But unfortunately for Tarboro, Beaufort County had scored four more runs of its own in the top of the third. So despite Tarboro finally generating some offense, it found itself trailing 13-4 after four innings of play. The Pirates added another run in the fifth inning to go up by 10 runs.

Tanner Alligood picked up the win for Beaufort County, allowing a run on two hits in three innings of work. The Northside graduate racked up two strikeouts while on the mound, while walking two batters and hitting another. Cutler and Warren each pitched an inning in relief of Alligood.

Boyd, Sulc, Holscher and Culter led the Pirates with two hits apiece. Warren led all players with four RBI, while Sulc notched two himself.
