Feeding program free to children

Hyde County Schools’ summer feeding program, free to all children under age 18, is underway.

The program, for which there is no enrollment fee, operates at multiple sites Mondays through Thursdays until July 19. The feeding sites are at the following locations:

  • Mattamuskeet School cafeteria, 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. for breakfast and noon to 1 p.m. for lunch;
  • Hacienda Heights, Engelhard, 11:30 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. for lunch;
  • David Center, Engelhard, 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. for lunch;
  • O.A. Peay cafeteria, Swan Quarter, 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. for lunch;
  • Bay Court, Swan Quarter, 11:30 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. for lunch.

The menus for July 5 through July 19 follow:

  • July 5 — breakfast, breakfast pizza, fruit juice and milk; lunch, hot dog with bun, baked beans, cole slaw, peach cup and fresh apple, milk;
  • July 9 — breakfast, mini-French toast, fruit juice and milk; lunch, deli turkey with bun, sweet potato yams, steamed broccoli, applesauce cup, pear slice, milk;

July 10 — breakfast pizza, fruit juice and milk; lunch, barbecue sandwich, butter potatoes with parsley, steamed carrots, sliced peaches, mixed fruit, milk;

July 11 — breakfast, strudel stick, fruit juice and milk; lunch, chicken nuggets, wheat roll, pinto beans, creamed potatoes, pineapple bits, orange slice, milk;

July 12 — breakfast, snack bun, fruit juice and milk; lunch, Beef-A-Roni, steamed corn, baked fries, Mandarin orange, fresh apple, milk;

July 16 — breakfast, sausage biscuit, fruit juice and milk; lunch, corn dog nuggets, sweet potato yams, green beans, fresh orange, pear slice, milk;

July 17 — breakfast, mini-waffle, fruit juice and milk; lunch, chicken quesadilla with sauce, steamed broccoli, steamed carrots, sliced peaches, mixed fruit, milk;

July 18 — breakfast, eggs, sausage, toast, fruit juice and milk; lunch, peanut crustables/baked chicken, creamed potatoes, black-eyed peas, fresh apple, pineapple bits, milk;

July 19 — breakfast, breakfast pizza, fruit juice and milk; lunch, Big Daddy pizza, baked fries, steamed squash, Mandarin orange, applesauce cup milk.

Menus are subject to change. Snack times are set at 10:15 a.m. Breakfast is not served at all sites.

Adults may participate in the program. The following is a list of prices for adults: small water, 50 cents; large water, $2; milk, 40 cents; entrée (meats), $1.80; vegetable, 70 cents; fresh fruit, 60 cents; canned fruit, 70 cents; small tossed salad (two vegetables), $1.40; large tossed salad (one meat, two vegetables), $3.20.
