Mrs. Mary Etta Dixon Hill, age 81, a resident of Chocowinity, NC died Tuesday

July 17, 2018 at her home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 20, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington, officiated by Rev. Henry Horne and Mrs. Hill’s grandsons, Ben and Tim Hodges.

Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens and will be officiated by Rev. Joe Ange. Pallbearers will be Gerald Bullock, Stan Sparks, Mike Hill, Tommy Clark, Snody Carrow and Warren Blackard. Honorary pallbearers will be Watson Elks and Dale Clark.

Mrs. Hill was born in Beaufort County on July 7, 1937. She was the eldest child of the late Rev. Charlie M. Dixon and the late Hilda Dixon. On July 30, 1955 she married William M. (Billy) Hill, who survives. She was a licensed cosmetologist for many years before choosing to stay at home to raise their only daughter, Paula. Mrs. Hill also worked at Jackson Bedding Company in Washington as a seamstress. She was a talented pianist, carpenter and loved a good jigsaw puzzle.

She was very active in her church, Union Chapel FWB Church, playing the piano and organ. She was a Sunday School teacher and taught a class for Junior Girls for years. She loved music and taught many young ladies how to harmonize. Most of all, she loved her Lord and pointing others toward him.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-two years, William M. “Billy”; one daughter, Paula H. Hodges and her husband, Donald of Chocowinity; two sisters, Joyce Bright of Chocowinity, Catherine Sue Price and her husband Charles of Camden, SC and one brother, C.M. Dixon, Jr. and his wife, Jeannie of Vanceboro; two grandsons, Ben Hodges and wife, Jennifer of New Bern and Tim Hodges and wife, Jessica of Kirksville, MO; four great-granddaughters, Emma Grace, Julianna Claire of New Bern, Sophia Kate & Olivia Paityn of Kirksville, MO.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday July 19, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home, 123 Ballard Street, Chocowinity.
