Robert Joseph Rose, 83, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018. Robert was born a “New Year’s baby” on January 1, 1935 in Johnson City, NY, eldest of three sons born to Peter and Helen Rose – with whom he was preceded in passing. Robert (Bob) played HS football for the “JC Wildcats”, graduated Johnson City High School in 1954 and married his wife of sixty-four years (Barbara Ann Rose) in 1954. Bob spent his entire career with IBM in Endicott, NY, where he flourished in his areas of Electrical Maintenance and Site Safety. He served in the United States National Guard during the years 1953 through 1957. Bob was active in the lives of his nine children (partial to the girls and dedicated to the boys), and devoted to his thirteen grandchildren. In his early 20’s, Bob hosted an old-time “Homecraft Ice Cream Shoppe” in the storefront of their small-town home for many years on Nanticoke Avenue in Endicott, NY. Bob achieved his degree in Mathematics after many years of night school. He was elected as a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers in 1981. Bob was an avid history reader, loved golf, bowling, playing IBM softball and he was an avid baseball and football fan. He served as Usher and Deacon at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Endicott, NY for several years. He was a simple, family-oriented, loving, caring man with a charming sense of wit and humor. He retired from IBM Endicott at the age of fifty-nine after forty-two years. A few years later, he and his wife Barbara retired on the peaceful shores of the Albemarle Sound in Columbia, NC. Bob’s craft talents in working with cement, plumbing, painting and electrical served him well throughout the years. Later in life, he honed and continued skills with woodworking, stained glass making and craft painting.

Robert is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Rose, who is also from Johnson City, NY and still resides in Columbia, NC. His nine surviving children: William J. Rose (his wife Betty, son Matthew and daughter Jenna), Theresa A. Herman (her husband Bill, daughter Lindsey), Joseph M. Rose (his wife Angela, daughter Michelle, daughter Danielle, son Thomas and daughter Angelina), Robert J. Rose (his wife Kathleen, son Jordan), Patrick J. Rose (wife Lindsey), Daniel J. Rose (his late wife Luanne), Mary E. Wells (her husband David, daughter Elizabeth, son David and son Anderson), Christopher J. Rose, and Rebecca A. Abbott (her husband Christopher, daughter Haley, son, David and family and son Mark and family). Robert’s passing was preceded by his younger brother, Michael P. Rose’s recent passing (wife Patricia, daughter, Angannette and son Michael).

There will be a service for family and friends to honor the life of Robert Joseph Rose on Wednesday, July 25th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church on 207 N. Broad Street, Edenton, NC 27932. Phone: (252) 482-2617. There will be a burial service at Azalea Memorial Gardens in Columbia, NC at 1:00 p.m. following Mass and then there will be a luncheon Reception at Saint Anne’s Church Hall Immediately following the burial service.
