According to a flash flood watch issued Monday, an area of tropical moisture will remain over Eastern North Carolina through mid-week, producing heavy showers and thunderstorms through this evening, at least. According to the watch, widespread rainfall amounts between two and six inches are possible through this evening.
While the flash flood watch expires at 8 p.m. this evening, showers and thunderstorms are forecasted to continue through the week.
“The prolonged nature of this event, combined with the potential for frequent downpours will lead to flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas,” the watch states.
A flash flood watch indicates that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. The National Weather Service recommends that area residents continue to monitor forecasts and be prepared to take action if necessary.
