Mrs. Shelby Padrick Lewis, 80, passed away in her sleep and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 13, 2018. Shelby was born in Rocky Mount, and grew up in Havelock where she met her husband, Bobby Lewis. They were married at First Baptist Church of Havelock on Aug. 5, 1959. Shelby was a life-long member of First Baptist Church.

Shelby was preceded in death last month to the day by her husband Bobby. They were married for 59 very happy and wonderful years.

Shelby is survived by her sons, Bob Lewis and his wife Amy, of Santa Barbara, California; Mike Lewis and his wife Patti, of New Bern; grandchildren, Matthew, David, Hannah, Maggie and Michael; sister, Amelia Bryan and husband Joe, of New Bern; sister, Patricia Norman and husband Woody, of Hoover, Alabama; sister, Pam Richards and husband Steve, of Clemmons; brother, Ronnie Padrick and wife Lyn, of Dunn; nieces, Gina, Mandy, Cynthia, and Amy; nephews, Joe, Michael, Curtis, and Brent; brother and sister in-law, Lyle and Peggy Lewis, of New Bern, niece Brenda and nephew Cliff.

Shelby was known by her family and friends for her exuberant smile and positive outlook; she was a hard worker who was career minded, and with excellent high school scores began work with Naval Supply as a clerk typist at Cherry Point MCAS at the age of 18. Shelby always believed in a work-hard ethic and rose to a leadership role by the end of her career. Shelby was recognized numerous times during her career for her valued performance with Naval Supply and retired with an honorary ceremony by the Marine Corps after a 40-year career in 1996.

Shelby worked hard to have an excellent work-life balance as well. She was a great role model for her family and friends. Shelby made time for her family with weekends at the beach or river, and she always planned out an adventurous two-week vacation every year with Bobby and their two sons. Shelby also realized a childhood dream of traveling to Europe with her husband, where they shared many adventures and memories. She enjoyed music and dancing; she and Bobby saw Elvis live-in-concert, took life-long piano lessons, and went to beach music dance-outings with her friends. Later in life, Shelby treasured her time shared with her close friends of the Red Hat Society, local Golden Girls, and her church.

The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff for their wonderful and sincere palliative care from Courtyards at Berne Village, Pruitt Hospice, and earlier caregivers Saletha Fonville and Lynn Croom.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at Pollock-Best Funeral Home from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. The service will be led by Rev. Dr. Don Hadley of First Baptist Church of Havelock. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to First Baptist Church of Havelock for their “church porch-entry project” or charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.pollockbest.com.
