The Upper Deck of the Washington Yacht & Country Club was lively Thursday evening as the Washington (evening) Rotary Club celebrated their annual Charter/Member night. President Norm Koestline called the meeting to order and welcomed members and guest. Bill Wall led in the Pledge of Allegiance, and music man Bartow Houston led in one verse of “America.”Club Chaplain Lt. Karl Busch gave thanks for the meal.
After an excellent dinner, David McLawhorn installed Lt. Karl Busch as the clubs newest member. President Koestline then called on Sam Grimes to make a special presentation. Long-time member Charlie Brown was presented with a special plaque for Service Above Self. Charlie joined the club in 1987 and has served in many areas. He just celebrated his 90th birthday and attends every meeting. He was key in helping establish the Charter/ Member night years ago. Guest speaker John T. Capps of Morehead City was introduced by Rocky Jacobs. Capps has traveled the country on behalf of Rotary and spoke about how important one person can be in making a difference. A nice evening of food and fellowship ended as Bill Wall led in reciting the Four Way Test of the Things We Think, Say and Do.
