NEW BERN — The Home Builders Association of Craven and Pamlico Counties generously presented a check to the Tryon Palace Foundation on Dec. 17, at the North Carolina History Center. The $4,045.87 check was from funds raised at the “Governor’s Challenge Cornhole Tournament” held on Nov. 2.

The “Governor’s Challenge Cornhole Tournament” is an annual fundraising event hosted by the Home Builders Association, which raises money for the Association and the Tryon Palace Foundation’s Garden Cottage project.

“We are so grateful for the continued support of the Home Builders Association of Craven and Pamlico Counties, which has generously helped to provide funding necessary to build the Garden Cottage,” said Bill McCrea, Executive Director, Tryon Palace. “The Garden Cottage will be a place where staff and volunteers can work in comfort and safety, and will contribute to the lasting beauty of Tryon Palace’s famous gardens and grounds.”

To date, the Home Builders Association has raised more than $20,000 for Tryon Palace’s Garden Cottage.

The fifth-annual Governor’s Challenge event was originally scheduled for Sept. 28, but due to the impacts of Hurricane Florence, was rescheduled for Nov. 2.
