Daniel “Danny” Vaughn Sleeper, age 69, a resident of 2276 Slatestone Road, Washington, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at his home.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at the First Baptist Church in Washington, officiated by Dr. Greg Barmer, pastor.
Danny was born on Nov. 7, 1949, in Portsmouth, Virginia, the son of the late Henry Evert Sleeper and Martha Louder Sleeper. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Washington. Danny especially enjoyed church songs and singing them with his church family. He loved gardening, cooking and was known for often cooking for large groups such as his church family and many friends. When he wasn’t doing for others, he could be found helping his wife, Carolyn, in her art studio with her many creative endeavors and giving her his total support. Danny will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Rochelle Sleeper, of the home; a son, Joseph Edward Sleeper and wife Jennifer, of Norfolk, Virginia; brother, Phillip Eugene Sleeper, of Norfolk, Virginia, and mother-in-law, who was like a mother, Alice Rochelle, of Washington. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Denise Sleeper; sister, Jenny Mae Baumgardt; and two brothers, James Arthur Sleeper and Wallace Dean Sleeper.
