Mr. Danny K. Respess, age 69, a resident of Lake Road, Wenona Community, Pantego, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Plymouth, conducted by Thomas Hamilton.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Kyle Burbage, Carter Burbage, Josh Respess, Hunter Respess, Larry Garrett and David Lawrence.

Mr. Respess was born in Wenona on Aug. 5, 1949. He was the son of the late Jesse Rudolph Respess and Marie Carter Respess. Farming was Mr. Respess’ life, until his retirement in 2016. In addition to small grains, Danny tried his hand at many forms of produce farming over the years. Sweet onions, cucumbers, cabbage and potatoes were how many summers were spent. He was a pilot, former Mason and was active in the “No OLF Group.” On Dec. 24, 1971, Mr. Respess married the former Kathryn “Kitty” Wofford, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, who survives.

Surviving with his wife are his son, Lance Respess, of Pantego; daughter, Dayna Matkins and husband John, of Washington; granddaughter, Alexis Matkins, of Washington; brother, Jackie Respess and wife Brenda, of Pantego; sister, Donna Burbage and husband Gary, of Bath; sister-in-law, Diana Respess, of Bath; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Respess was preceded in death by a brother, J. R. Respess, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and other times at the home of his daughter, Dayna Matkins, Old Ford community, Washington.
