Richard “Thad” Leggett

Mr. Richard Thaddous “Thad” Leggett, age 80, a resident of Clarks Neck community, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2019, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, at Oakdale Cemetery and will be officiated by Bobby Gene Waters.

Mr. Leggett was born on Nov. 4, 1938, to the late Marshall Lee Leggett and Kathleen Clark Leggett. On Jan. 8, 1960, he married Joan Patricia Smith, who preceded him in death on March 20, 2018. He was the owner of Leggett’s Cash & Carry for 37 years. Mr. Leggett was a wonderful husband and father and excellent grandfather. He was devoted to his family. Mr. Leggett enjoyed boating, classic cars, guns and was a huge UNC fan. He took care of his family. Mr. Leggett was also a longtime member of the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his son, Gregory Lee Leggett and wife Valinda, of Washington; three grandchildren, Ryan Thaddous Leggett, Kayla Michelle Leggett, Joseph Brent Pilgreen; a great-grandchild, Charlotte Leggett; two brothers, Marshal Wayne Leggett and wife Patricia, of Raleigh, Cecil Ray Leggett, of Bath; and a sister, Geraldine Dixon, of Washington.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, Mr. Leggett is preceded in death by a half-brother, Coy Woolard, and two sisters, Marion Glenn Hall and Julia Ann Leggett.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.
