Five county buildings were recently connected to natural gas, David L. Clegg, Tyrrell County Manager/Attorney, stated.

The Library on Main Street, the Extension office on Martha Street, the MTW Health Department on Bridge Street, the Senior Center on Bridge Street, and the Post Office on South Broad Street are now using natural gas for heating and other purposes.

Meanwhile, Rhett White, Columbia’s town manager,  announced that the Extension office will be getting a fiber optic cable connection soon. The underground installation will begin on Broad Street near Main, proceed along the east side of North Broad Street to Martha, then along the south side of Martha Street to the Extension office. Trenching machinery in the project’s path will cause temporary traffic delays, he cautioned.
