Foggy Morning Birding
Recently, on a foggy morning at Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, groups of American Avocets were spotted wading and feeding in the thick mist. The American Avocet is a long-legged shorebird, which feeds in mudflats and shallow water on small fish as well as aquatic invertebrates, which include water fleas, midges, beetles, brine flies and water boatman.
