Preston Woodley Sexton

Preston Woodley Sexton, 95, of Creswell died Saturday, February 16, 2019, at his residence in Creswell surrounded by his loving family.

Born February 21, 1923 in Tyrrell County he was the son of the late Ralph Sexton and Dezzie Woodley Sexton and was preceded in death by his brothers, Delton Sexton and Robert Sexton.

Preston began his working career as a carpenter and at his retirement he was a construction superintendent with Wimco of Washington and a member of Philippi Church of Christ. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II with service in central Europe and the Pacific. He served twelve years on the Creswell Town Council, was a member of American Legion Post 391 and the 90’s group of Tyrrell County. He was best known for his help to his church and community on building projects that he enjoyed doing.

His family includes his wife, Renia Mae Phelps Sexton of Creswell; sons, Ricky Dwight Sexton, Tony Eric Sexton both of Creswell, N.C. and Preston Bart Sexton of Goldsboro; brother, Van Sexton of Perry, GA.; grandchildren, Stetson Sexton, Justin Sexton, Jared Sexton, Jordan Sexton and Presley Sexton; great grandson, Preston Sexton, Jr.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Philippi Church of Christ, Creswell with Jimmy Davenport, Glenn Brickhouse and Thomas Biggs officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the residence.
