From the Town of Columbia

Columbia residents are reminded that a building permit may be needed before beginning remodeling, renovation and additions to residential and business structures. This includes electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning work. A permit is also needed prior to demolition of a structure.

Residents and business owners are encouraged to contact the Columbia Building Inspector before beginning work on a project to determine whether a permit is necessary. Failure to secure a permit when required may result in a stop-work order and having to dismantle work already done, plus a fine.

The town staff will also provide information on zoning set-backs and other requirements in residential and business zones.

For information visit the Columbia Municipal Building at 103 Main Street or call 252-796-2781.
