Storm may bring strong, damaging winds to Beaufort County

In an afternoon update from the National Weather Service at Newport/Morehead City, forecasts show the potential for strong, damaging winds throughout Beaufort County. The wind threat for Beaufort County has increased from the last assessment, and the projected wind speeds increase in intensity the farther east one looks on the map.
As of Wednesday afternoon, maximum sustained winds of around 60 miles per hour were predicted for Washington, with sustained wind speeds of 70 miles per hour in Belhaven and 76 miles per hour in Aurora. Gusts in the upper 70s could be possible for Washington, while Aurora and Belhaven could see gusts of up to 91 and 89 miles per hour, respectively.
Further east in, Hyde County, sustained wind speeds could reach as high as 90 miles per hour, with gusts up to 112 miles per hour.
The window for tropical storm force winds remains from Thursday evening until Friday afternoon, while the window for hurricane force winds will be from early Friday morning until Friday morning.Beaufort County remains under a hurricane warning, a flash flood warning and a storm surge warning.
