Though the brunt of Hurricane Dorian passed this morning, Beaufort County residents will continue to experience rain and wind throughout the day.
Sustained winds are expected to stay in the 40-mph range for the next several hours, with gusts of up to 60 mph.
An additional 1 to 1.5 inches of rain is forecasted for Washington; another 1.5 to 2 inches, for Belhaven.
According to the National Weather Service minor to moderate flooding is expected: “Small rivers, creeks, and streams will remain elevated through tonight with improving conditions into Saturday.”
County manager Brian Alligood encouraged residents to stay off the roads to allow crews the opportunity to remove trees and debris safely.
