Doris Burbage Brooks Karnowski

Doris Burbage Brooks Karnowski, age 88, a resident of Carteret County and formerly of Washington, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019 at Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 24. 2019 at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington.
Mrs. Karnowski was born in the Sidney Community of Beaufort County on May 4, 1931. She was the daughter of the Rufus G. Burbage and Pearlie Daw Burbage. Mrs. Karnowski graduated from John A. Wilkinson High School in Belhaven in 1949. She was a banking representative with Bank of America, retiring with 22 years of service. Mrs. Karnowski was a member of the First Baptist Church, WMU groups, Ruth Sunday School Class, American Legion #14, DAV Auxiliary #48, NARFE 804 and the Red Hat Honeys of the Red Hat Society. Doris married Braxton E. Brooks, Sr. who passed away December 1988. Later she married Edwin Karnowski, who passed in August 2013.
She is survived by a son: Braxton E. Brooks, Jr. and wife Marion of Newport; a daughter: Brenda B. Ingram of Newport; a sister: Betsy B. Campbell of Yeatesville; a sister-n-law: Linda Burbage of Yeatesville; a dear friend and sister-n-law: Bernice B. Cannon of Yeatesville; five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and spouses, Mrs Karnowski was preceded in death by her brothers, Rufus G. Burbage, Jr., R. David Burbage, James T. Burbage, a daughter: Patricia B. Clark, a son: Terry W. Brooks and grandson: Lee Burrow.
