Mr. Johnny Blount Brinn, Jr., age 80, a resident of 5459 N.C. Highway 99 South, Belhaven, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2019, at his home.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019, at Sidney Free Will Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. David Pooser. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Brinn was born in Beaufort County on May 4, 1939. He was the son of the late Johnny Blount Brinn, Sr. and Daisy Magaline Bell Brinn. Mr. Brinn served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Brinn had several jobs over his working career. He operated Brinn’s INS at Sidney Crossroads for 11 years before going into hog farming. He retired in 2000 and built a shop for woodworking. Mr. Brinn built furniture as long as his health permitted.
Mr. Brinn was a member of the Sidney Free Will Baptist Church, a former deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of Belhaven Masonic Lodge #509 and a former Ruritan. In his spare time, Mr. Brinn enjoyed gardening and sharing his vegetables with his neighbors.
On March 19, 1959, Mr. Brinn married the former Marie Keech, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are a son, Billy Brinn, of Belhaven; two grandchildren, Callie Leigh Fitch (Jordan), of Greenville, Brooke Leigh, of the U.S. Air Force; great-grandchild, Josie Fitch; brother, Jimmy Brinn (Kathy), of Belhaven; and two nephews, John Brinn (Kathy), Jay Brinn.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Brinn was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Brinn Leigh, and a grandson, Kendall Leigh.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church and other times at the home.
