Arts of the Pamlico and downtown art galleries and shops in downtown Washington are readying for the first Art Walk of the year. Friday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., downtown art stops will be open late for your enjoyment.

At Arts of the Pamlico’s Turnage Theatre, you can view the new Vaudeville & Theatre Memorabilia exhibit. This collection of 1920s through 1960s theater treasures will be on display for one more week only. The exhibit will be expanded this summer to become a permanent museum in the art café’ section of the Turnage Theatre. Check out the new gift shop collection of jewelry, hand knit scarves and more. Then wander upstairs in the balcony of the palace theater in the rear of the building and take in the movie

costumes and jewelry from Lovie, Mrs. Howell, of the TV show, “Gilligan’s Island.” Check out the new kinetic sculpture donated to AOP and enter the raffle to win the right to name the sculpture. Tickets are just $5.

Paint & Take pottery will be open at the Arts of the Pamlico during art walk. Paint a picture frame, figurine and more! Sodas, water, snacks, wine and beer available to enjoy while you paint. Prices range from $5 to $15 per item of your choice. Paint, brushes and painting aprons provided.

Step outside and right next door to the Secret Garden Gallery & Boutique to shop a colorful collection of clothing and jewelry and view walls peppered with local art.

Around the bend at Kay Woolard’s gallery on Market Street, Art on Market, catch up with Chip Shackleford to view Kay’s lush floral paintings and Chip’s glass art.

Head back down Main Street and stop at River Walk Gallery and Arts Center to view and shop a collection of local art from pottery to brilliant paintings created by John Groessor with a palette knife.

Head down the alley to Art Tyndall’s gallery and plan to stay a while to get warm and chat with Art about his unique style and take a well-known water landscape home with you.

Lemonade Art Gallery is just a block away, chock full of handcrafted jewelry, scratchboard art by Ginger Gehres and delicate floral work by Carol Mann.

Don’t miss stopping at local shops, including Little Shoppes & South Market Antiques, Pursers Chest & Wine & Words and Gourmet — all of which will be open for your night out! Stop by local restaurants for a bite to eat and something to drink as you make your way around downtown.

Mark your calendar for upcoming art walks this year in downtown Washington. Art Walks in 2020 will be held March 20, May 22, July 24 and Sept. 18, all from 6 to 8 p.m.
