Dora Harris Modlin

Mrs. Dora Jernigan Harris Modlin, age 91, a resident of Washington, died Thursday Jan. 23, 2020, at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020 in the sanctuary at First United Methodist Church and will be officiated by Rev. Chris Leak and Rev. Ken Hall. Her grandsons, Todd Griffin, Scott Griffin, Brad Griffin, Jamie Harris and Landon Modlin, will serve as pallbearers along with Horace Modlin.

Mrs. Modlin was born in Bertie County on July 23, 1928 to the late Herbert and Nora Jernigan. On April 8, 1946 she married James Thomas Harris, Sr. who preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 1961. On June 7, 1997 she married Roland Blount Modlin who preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 2008. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her children, Brenda Harris Griffin and husband Ray, Debbie Harris Modlin and husband Blount; eight grandchildren, Tracy Smith, Jamie Harris, Jennifer Jackson, Todd Griffin, Scott Griffin, Brad Griffin, Laura Holmes, Landon Modlin; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; her brother, Thomas Daniel Harris; and a daughter-in-law, Joan Harris.

She is preceded in death by her son, James Thomas Harris, Jr.

The family will receive friends at Mrs. Modlin’s home on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020 from 2 to 4 p.m. and in the church parlor at the First United Methodist Church on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020 from 3 p.m. until the funeral hour.
