Bennie Franklin Sullivan

Mr. Bennie Franklin Sullivan, age 94, a resident of Runyon Hills, Washington, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020, at his home.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020, at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, conducted by Rev. Joseph Hall and Rev. David Young.

Mr. Sullivan was born in Goldsboro on March 17, 1925. He was the son of the late Needham A. Sullivan and Sarah Lane Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He farmed for many years, as well as worked at Hamilton Beach and eventually retired from Stanadyne. Mr. Sullivan was a member of Five Points Free Will Baptist Church for more than 40 years. He was also a member of the Pinetown Ruritan Club and the American Legion. In his spare time, Mr. Sullivan loved to fish.

In June of 1947, Mr. Sullivan married the former Mary Waters, who survives.

Surviving with his wife, Mary, of the home, are two daughters, Mary Jane Jones (Ray), of Chocowinity, Sharon Wilson (William), of Washington; three grandchildren, Bennie Ray Jones (Bonnie), William Jones (Tracey), Michael Spivey (Christie); three great-grandchildren, James Jones, Arabella Spivey, Bethany Spivey; and one brother, Needham Sullivan, Jr.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sullivan was preceded in death by a daughter, Julia Sullivan; four brothers, Glenn M. Sullivan, Marvin Sullivan, Johnny Sullivan, Troy Sullivan; and two sisters, Estelle Taylor and Ruby Harris.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2020, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.
