Hooded Merganser

The Pungo Unit of Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge is a good location to see migratory birds and waterfowl, such as the Hooded Merganser shown below. This male Merganser is a small, handsome duck. It feeds on small fish, crayfish, mollusks, crustaceans, reptiles, amphibians as well vegetation.
