Auther Wayne Brown

Mr. Auther Wayne Brown, age 77, a resident of Hoff Road, Belhaven, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2020, at his home.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven.

A waterfront ceremony will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Mr. Brown was born in Marion County, Florida, on Oct. 23, 1942. He was the son of the late Oscar and Pauline Brown. Mr. Brown served in the U. S. Army from 1961 to 1982, retiring with rank of First Sergeant. He was deployed in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. After retiring from the Army, he moved to Belhaven and worked as a commercial fisherman. Mr. Brown was a former Shriner and was a Baptist. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

On March 2, 1968, Mr. Brown married the former Brigitte Gunkel, who survives.

Surviving with his wife are his son, Robert Brown and wife Gwen, of Graham, North Carolina; his daughter, Katie Brown, of Belhaven; his son, James Jones and wife Kimberly, of Belhaven; grandchildren, Samantha and husband Aaron Adams, Tristian Jones, Myranda Jones, Maria Fritzler, Shane Jordan, Jessi Brown, Lyndsi Brown and Chase Jones; great-grandchildren, Skyler Adams and Colton Adams; two sisters, Beatrice McLeod, of Gainesville, Florida, Sharon Kinard and husband David, of Ocala, Florida; brother, Calvin Brown, of Fayetteville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Brown and Kenneth Brown.
