The City of Washington has been monitoring developments with COVID-19 (2019 novel coronavirus) since its inception. When responding to an infectious disease, the City closely follows the recommendations and guidance made by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as state and county health departments and officials. While many variables are surrounding COVID-19, we are committed to the safety and health of our employees and meeting the needs of our customers and citizens.

Today, the City of Washington will be closing several facilities to the public to protect our employees and our patrons while we continuously monitor the evolving situation with COVID-19. These facilities include:

  • George H. and Laura E. Brown Library
  • Grace Martin Harwell Senior Center
  • Moore Aquatic & Fitness Center
  • Bobby Andrews Recreation Center

The Washington Civic Center will be limiting events to 100 patrons and under.

The City of Washington will also continue to work with the Beaufort County Health Department, Vidant Beaufor Hospital and Beaufort County government officials to closely evaluate the next steps to help protect the public health and prevent spread of COVID-19. We will coincide with the Beaufort County School System when and if necessary to take further steps. We regret any inconvenience this may cause our employees and citizens in the direct future but believe we must be proactive for a positive outcome.
