Mrs. Geraldine Woolard Modlin, age 81, a resident of Washington, died Monday, March 23, 2020, at her home.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at the home.

Mrs. Modlin was born in Beaufort County on Nov. 17, 1938, daughter of the late Lloyd Alton Woolard and the late Cora Lee Gurganus Woolard. On Aug. 9, 1954, she married Alton Ernest Modlin who preceded her in death on April 16, 1998. She dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker and was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ.

Survivors include: two sons, Elvis Ray Modlin (Robin), of Grimesland and Alton Lee Modlin (Dianne), of Bath; a brother, James O. Woolard, of Washington; a sister, Viola W. Williams, of California; grandchildren, Samantha Jackson (“Ric”), of Washington, Joshua Allen Cutler, of Grimesland, Alton Lee Modlin Jr., of Rocky Mount, Tonya Henderson, of Bath, and William Cody Harris, of Bath; and great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Brooke Cutler and Shelby Brianne Barfield, both of Washington, Savanah Williams, of Bath, Malachi Mayo, of Grimesland, Alexis Whitehurst, of Bath, and Cheyenne Williams, of Bath. Mrs. Modlin was preceded in death, along with her parents and husband, by a daughter, Sherry M. Buchanan; a grandson, Ricky Whitehurst; and a brother, Lloyd Alton Woolard Jr.
