N.C. Governor Roy Cooper announced Monday afternoon that schools will remain closed in North Carolina until May 15.

“This is what we need to do to help slow the spread of this virus, but I am committed to ensuring our students get the best education they can this year,” Cooper said. “I have asked the State Board of Education in collaboration with the Department of Public Instruction and legislators to develop a plan that strives to educate our students through the remainder of the school year.”

The Governor said the May 15 date came about after looking at guidance from the CDC and other public health organizations. The governor said the state was consulting with internet service providers to expand internet access for students as quickly as possible.
