All:

The Governor’s shelter in place order does not apply to essential government operations. Government at all levels must continue to protect the health, safety and welfare of its citizens. Tyrrell County government is a very lean operation with employees performing multiple functions, so all county employees are hereby deemed essential.

Beginning on Tuesday, March 31, we need to help our citizens socially distance. Therefore, all county departments will be operational but any in-person contact with the public needs to be by appointment only. (This should apply as much as practical to the administrative functions of first responders.) We mailed magnets last year, so every address in the county has had a magnet delivered with the phone number of each department. We endeavor to provide as full service as possible with phone and email, and must stagger personal appointments to insure distancing. Please work to keep visitation to one customer at a time. Entrance

doors should be closed with a sign affixed giving instructions about calling, email

and appointments. The decision to allow the appointment is yours to make given

the urgent, unique or critical nature of the visit

As leaders, you know best about the operation of your department. Please look at your operation and make sure that you are giving distancing away from the work place to some of your employees each day. Determine how we can keep some folks productively working at home each day. In the event we get a positive virus case who had contact with a county employee, we must avoid having to isolate the whole government. In this time of pandemic, we have to look for innovative ways to deliver our services making sure everyone is safe and that citizens can rely on continuity of service. Expect further instructions as situations change and work reassignment if necessary to carry out emergency goals.

Please wear your Tyrrell County ID during the work day and keep it with you at all times.

Thank you for your dedicated service.
