Mr. Joe Shannon Thurmon Jr., age 53, a resident of Washington, passed away Friday, April 17, 2020.

The family will have a private service.

Joe was born in Beaufort County on Sept. 29, 1966, at the late Joe Shannon Thurmon and Peggy Somers Edwards who survives. He served in the United States National Guard at Fort Bragg, was employed in construction and was a member Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Peggy Edwards and husband Tommy, of Washington; his maternal grandmother, Kathleen Cox, of Washington; two sisters, Jackie Woolard and husband Johnny, of Washington, Hope Manning, of Winterville; two brothers, Billy Thurmon and wife Lorie, of Washington, Marshall Thurmon, of Washington; two nephews, David Brown, of Plymouth, Joshua Clark, of Washington; one niece, Christie Brown, of Washington; and one aunt, Joyce Blackmon and husband Kirk, of Washington.
