Fire consumes downtown building in Washington

Multiple fire departments responded to a fully involved structure fire in downtown Washington early Wednesday morning. The building, located at 115 N. Respess St., housed Ingalls Printing for years and was most recently occupied by Bear Creek Woodworks.

As of 1 a.m., Washington Fire-Rescue-EMS, Chocowinity Volunteer Fire Department and Bunyan Volunteer Fire Department were all working to contain the flames, which caused the roof of the building to partially collapse. Chocowinity EMS, the Washington Police Department, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and Beaufort County Emergency Services were on scene providing support.
