From the town of Columbia

With tropical storm Isaias brewing in the south Atlantic, it is a good time for Columbia residents to begin precautions for a hurricane.

Homeowners and business owners are encouraged to secure items that may float or blow away, especially trampolines and other children’s play equipment. Any lumber or building materials should be picked up, tied down and put into a secure place. Hardware holding shutters, gutters, flag stands and similar features may need to be replaced as well as items normally stored on decks or the outsides of storage shelters and carports.

Grills and trash cans can be secured in the hours prior to a storm’s landfall, but should not be overlooked.

Recent hurricanes have included significant flooding as well as wind. Both can be damaging.
