COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Beaufort County had a total 527 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday, an increase of eight overnight. There are currently 139 active cases in the county and seven people are hospitalized, according to the Tuesday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

According to the update, 379 of the 527 positive cases have recovered from the virus; nine people have died; seven of those last week.

All active cases are self-isolating, the update reads.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 5,421,806 Monday to 5,474,630 Tuesday; these numbers include 1,865,580 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 21,982,155 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 171,344 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 1,062 overnight.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 145,516 Monday to 146,779 Tuesday. There have been 2,398 deaths in the state attributed to the virus. The state currently has 1,026 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 127,749 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday numbered (does not include number of recovered): Bertie (326), Beaufort (527), Bladen (658), Brunswick (1,326), Carteret (385), Camden (79), Chowan (168), Columbus (990), Craven (792), Currituck (85); Dare (216), Duplin (2,030), Edgecombe (753), Gates (58), Greene (346), Halifax (761), Hertford (410), Hyde (62), Jones (113), Lenoir (649), Martin (286), New Hanover (2,729), Northampton (321), Onslow (1,242), Pamlico (74), Pasquotank (458), Pender (705), Perquimans (93), Pitt (2,341), Sampson (1,517), Tyrrell (103), Washington (146), Wayne (2,555) and Wilson (1,582). Durham (6,447), Mecklenburg (23,318) and Wake (12,847) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.

There had been 5,794 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Tuesday, with 5,165 negatives, 499 positives and 130 pending. These are cumulative numbers and include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county. Nine of Beaufort County’s cases were tested in other counties but are Beaufort County residents.

“There were approximately 980 tests completed in Beaufort County last week,” the update says.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
