COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Beaufort County had a total 538 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday, an increase of 12 overnight. There are currently 147 active cases in the county and nine people are hospitalized, according to the Wednesday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

According to the update, 382 of the 538 positive cases have recovered from the virus; nine people have died; seven of those last week.

All active cases are self-isolating, the update reads.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 5,474,630 Tuesday to 5,512,354 Wednesday; these numbers include 1,898,159 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 22,233,473 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 172,564 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 1,220 overnight.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 146,779 Tuesday to 147,924 Wednesday. There have been 2,430 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of 32 overnight. The state currently has 1,001 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 127,749 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday numbered (does not include number of recovered): Bertie (328), Beaufort (538), Bladen (659), Brunswick (1,330), Carteret (392), Camden (82), Chowan (168), Columbus (1,003), Craven (798), Currituck (85); Dare (216), Duplin (2,037), Edgecombe (772), Gates (60), Greene (349), Halifax (767), Hertford (420), Hyde (63), Jones (118), Lenoir (672), Martin (290), New Hanover (2,736), Northampton (320), Onslow (1,254), Pamlico (74), Pasquotank (464), Pender (708), Perquimans (94), Pitt (2,350), Sampson (1,523), Tyrrell (103), Washington (153), Wayne (2,583) and Wilson (1,584). Durham (6,461), Mecklenburg (23,434) and Wake (12,951) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.

There had been 6,048 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Wednesday, with 5,240 negatives, 511 positives and 297 pending. These are cumulative numbers and include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county. Nine of Beaufort County’s cases were tested in other counties but are Beaufort County residents.

“There were approximately 980 tests completed in Beaufort County last week,” the update says.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
