COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Beaufort County has had a total of 588 people test positive for COVID-19 since March 24; 20 of those were added on Monday. There are currently 151 active cases in the county and two people are hospitalized, according to the Friday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

According to the update, 428 of the 588 positive cases have recovered from the virus; nine people have died; seven of those in the space of six days, two weeks ago.

All active cases are self-isolating, the update reads.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 5,693,879 Sunday to 5,730,294 Monday; these numbers include 1,997,782 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 23,522,806 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 177,065 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 409 overnight.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 155,113 Sunday to 156,396 Monday. There have been 2,535 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of four overnight. The state currently has 948 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 127,749 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Monday numbered (does not include number of recovered): Bertie (362), Beaufort (588), Bladen (674), Brunswick (1,358), Carteret (436), Camden (87), Chowan (186), Columbus (1,040), Craven (875), Currituck (89); Dare (232), Duplin (2,060), Edgecombe (854), Gates (75), Greene (373), Halifax (816), Hertford (467), Hyde (77), Jones (126), Lenoir (727), Martin (312), New Hanover (2,846), Northampton (336), Onslow (1,355), Pamlico (90), Pasquotank (513), Pender (740), Perquimans (105), Pitt (2,766), Sampson (1,558), Tyrrell (103), Washington (168), Wayne (2,681) and Wilson (1,670). Durham (6,626), Mecklenburg (24,260) and Wake (13,842) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.

There had been 6,516 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Friday, with 5,681 negatives, 561 positives and 274 pending. These are cumulative numbers and include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county. Nine of Beaufort County’s cases were tested in other counties but are Beaufort County residents.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
