COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Beaufort County has had a total of 610 people test positive for COVID-19 since March 24; 20 of those were added Monday, seven Tuesday and 15 Wednesday. There are currently 166 active cases in the county and one person is currently hospitalized, according to the Wednesday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

According to the update, 435 of the 610 positive cases have recovered from the virus; nine people have died; seven of those in the space of six days, two weeks ago.

All active cases are self-isolating, the update reads.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 5,769,024 Tuesday to 5,810,192 Wednesday; these numbers include 2,053,694 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 24,007,049 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 179,310 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 1,064 overnight.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 157,738 Tuesday to 158,985 Wednesday. There have been 2,606 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of 37 overnight. The state currently has 1,004 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 136,630 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday numbered (does not include number of recovered): Bertie (372), Beaufort (610), Bladen (684), Brunswick (1,365), Carteret (446), Camden (89), Chowan (193), Columbus (1,058), Craven (881), Currituck (90); Dare (233), Duplin (2,060), Edgecombe (857), Gates (74), Greene (375), Halifax (836), Hertford (486), Hyde (85), Jones (128), Lenoir (741), Martin (318), New Hanover (2,884), Northampton (333), Onslow (1,403), Pamlico (92), Pasquotank (515), Pender (743), Perquimans (112), Pitt (2,934), Sampson (1,574), Tyrrell (104), Washington (169), Wayne (2,717) and Wilson (1,677). Durham (6,699), Mecklenburg (24,545) and Wake (14,151) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.

There had been 6,812 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Wednesday, with 6,009 negatives, 583 positives and 265 pending. These are cumulative numbers and include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county. Nine of Beaufort County’s cases were tested in other counties but are Beaufort County residents.

There were 1,824 tests completed by reporting agencies in Beaufort County last week; 105 of the tests were found to be positive, a 5.8% positivity rate, according to the Wednesday update.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
