COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Beaufort County has had a total of 648 people test positive for COVID-19 since March 24; 80 of which have been confirmed since Monday. There are currently 168 active cases in the county and one person is hospitalized, according to the Friday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

According to the update, 471 of the 648 positive cases have recovered from the virus; nine people have died; seven of those in the space of six days earlier this month.

All active cases are self-isolating, the update reads.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 5,854,342 Thursday to 5,901,393 Friday; these numbers include 2,101,326 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 24,563,380 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 181,409 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 1,029 overnight.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 161,075 Thursday to 162,491 Friday. There have been 2,652 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of 22 overnight. The state currently has 970 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 136,630 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Friday numbered (does not include number of recovered): Bertie (397), Beaufort (648), Bladen (694), Brunswick (1,371), Carteret (466), Camden (93), Chowan (203), Columbus (1,083), Craven (888), Currituck (95); Dare (241), Duplin (2,071), Edgecombe (912), Gates (79), Greene (388), Halifax (846), Hertford (514), Hyde (91), Jones (130), Lenoir (765), Martin (325), New Hanover (2,917), Northampton (336), Onslow (1,440), Pamlico (99), Pasquotank (532), Pender (754), Perquimans (127), Pitt (3,299), Sampson (1,591), Tyrrell (105), Washington (172), Wayne (2,767) and Wilson (1,698). Durham (6,790), Mecklenburg (24,847) and Wake (14,536) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.

There had been 7,263 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Friday, with 6,359 negatives, 621 positives and 273 pending. These are cumulative numbers and include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county. Nine of Beaufort County’s cases were tested in other counties but are Beaufort County residents.

There were 1,824 tests completed by reporting agencies in Beaufort County last week; 105 of the tests were found to be positive, a 5.8% positivity rate, according to the Friday update.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
