COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Beaufort County has had a total of 681 people test positive for COVID-19 since March 24; 113 of which were confirmed over the past week . There are currently 162 active cases in the county and six people are currently hospitalized, according to the Monday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

According to the update, 510 of the 681 positive cases have recovered from the virus; nine people have died; seven of those in the space of six days earlier this month.

All active cases are self-isolating, the update reads.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 5,992,401 Sunday to 6,020,186 Monday; these numbers include 2,153,963 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 25,325,617 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 183,355 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 350 overnight.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 166,127 Sunday to 167,309 Monday. There have been 2,702 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of 10 overnight. The state currently has 923 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 145,884 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Monday numbered (does not include number of recovered): Bertie (435), Beaufort (681), Bladen (716), Brunswick (1,389), Carteret (500), Camden (97), Chowan (220), Columbus (1,102), Craven (971), Currituck (107); Dare (243), Duplin (2,083), Edgecombe (955), Gates (84), Greene (414), Halifax (862), Hertford (549), Hyde (96), Jones (136), Lenoir (797), Martin (347), New Hanover (3,031), Northampton (338), Onslow (1,474), Pamlico (155), Pasquotank (548), Pender (768), Perquimans (138), Pitt (3,529), Sampson (1,609), Tyrrell (107), Washington (177), Wayne (2,820) and Wilson (1,733). Durham (6,908), Mecklenburg (25,345) and Wake (14,967) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.

There had been 7,485 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Monday, with 6,603 negatives, 655 positives and 227 pending. These are cumulative numbers and include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county. Nine of Beaufort County’s cases were tested in other counties but are Beaufort County residents.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
