The Governor’s Highway Safety Program has kicked off the annual Labor Day ‘Booze It & Lose It’ campaign by joining forces with the North Carolina Trucking Association, the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and members of more than 500 law enforcement, sheriff and police agencies around the state.

The Labor Day holiday is the fourth most dangerous weekend to be on the roads behind New Year’s Eve, Christmas and St. Patrick’s Day.

High-visibility enforcement reduces drunk driving fatalities as much as 20 percent.

Historically, drunk driving accounts for nearly one-third of vehicle-related fatalities across North Carolina.

The campaign will run through September 13.
