COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Beaufort County has had a total of 711 people test positive for COVID-19 since March 24; 13 of which were confirmed Wednesday . There are currently 173 active cases in the county and seven people are currently hospitalized, none of which are in ICU, according to the Wednesday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

According to the update, 529 of the 711 positive cases have recovered from the virus; nine people have died; seven of those in the space of six days in mid-August.

All active cases are self-isolating, the update reads.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 6,068,139 Tuesday to 6,094,562 Wednesday; these numbers include 2,202,682 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 25,842,561 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 184,914 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 464 overnight.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 169,424 Tuesday to 170,553 Wednesday. There have been 2,779 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of 38 overnight. The state currently has 858 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 145,884 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday numbered (does not include number of recovered): Bertie (448), Beaufort (711), Bladen (729), Brunswick (1,402), Carteret (513), Camden (99), Chowan (227), Columbus (1,128), Craven (1,000), Currituck (112); Dare (244), Duplin (2,085), Edgecombe (996), Gates (87), Greene (422), Halifax (875), Hertford (561), Hyde (100), Jones (134), Lenoir (808), Martin (352), New Hanover (3,154), Northampton (343), Onslow (1,509), Pamlico (169), Pasquotank (572), Pender (773), Perquimans (143), Pitt (3,667), Sampson (1,627), Tyrrell (108), Washington (179), Wayne (2,841) and Wilson (1,764). Durham (7,013), Mecklenburg (25,703) and Wake (15,297) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.

There had been 11,965 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Wednesday, with 10,974 negatives, 702 positives and 289 pending. These are cumulative numbers and include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county. Nine of Beaufort County’s cases were tested in other counties but are Beaufort County residents.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
