COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Beaufort County has had a total of 756 people test positive for COVID-19 since March 24; six of whom were confirmed Monday. There are currently 145 active cases in the county and 12 people are hospitalized, according to the Monday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

According to the update, 593 of the 750 positive cases have recovered from the virus; 10 people have died — seven of those in the space of six days in mid-August — and a tenth person died last week, according to Beaufort County Health Department Director Jim Madson.

All active cases are self-isolating, the update reads.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 6,268,757 Sunday to 6,297,021 Monday; these numbers include 2,315,995 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 27,217,700 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 189,114 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 323 overnight.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 176,901 Sunday to 177,919 Monday. There have been 2,897 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of seven overnight. The state currently has 765 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 145,884 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Monday numbered (does not include number of recovered): Bertie (492), Beaufort (756), Bladen (763), Brunswick (1,434), Carteret (557), Camden (102), Chowan (252), Columbus (1,186), Craven (1,070), Currituck (122); Dare (254), Duplin (2,098), Edgecombe (1,073), Gates (101), Greene (458), Halifax (902), Hertford (595), Hyde (110), Jones (142), Lenoir (857), Martin (375), New Hanover (3,413), Northampton (353), Onslow (1,627), Pamlico (210), Pasquotank (602), Pender (809), Perquimans (151), Pitt (4,044), Sampson (1,675), Tyrrell (108), Washington (188), Wayne (2,926) and Wilson (1,852). Durham (7,322), Mecklenburg (26,301) and Wake (15,819) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.

There had been 12,411 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Monday, with 11,503 negatives, 747 positives and 161 pending. These are cumulative numbers and include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county. Nine of Beaufort County’s cases were tested in other counties but are Beaufort County residents.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
