Galen Matthew Swain, age 63, a resident of Waters Road, Pinetown, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020, after a brief illness.
Galen was born May 16, 1957, in Washington to D.S. Swain Jr. and Margie Respess Swain. He is survived by a brother, D.S. Swain III, of Chocowinity, and a sister, Amy Swain, of Louisburg. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Eric Swain; and a sister, Nima Swain.
Galen was “Galen.” If you met him, you were unlikely to forget him. He lived life his own way, uncompromising and unapologetic. He was firm in his opinions and unafraid to express them. Galen liked motorcycles, guns, cars, horses, women and having beers with his friends. If you were his friend, Galen had a heart of gold. If you were his enemy, you knew it. Galen was very proud of his captain’s license and was looking forward to his campaign for county commissioner in the next election cycle.
He will be missed.
A private burial service will be held at the Swain family plot at Oakdale Cemetery.
